Annual Agreement Report

Work Project, Leiden University, 2023

As part of my University Council work for PhDoc, I initiated an investigation into the use of annual agreements among early career academics at our university. Annual agreements provide employees with some flexibility regarding their holiday days, but have been criticised recently because they have many negative consequences, especially for early career academics. If you’re interested in improving working conditions at our universities, I hope you’ll take the time to read the full report. We discussed the report with the university board, who indicated they were grateful for our work and were going to implement changes to mitigate the issues with annual agreements.

Elected to University Council

Work Project, Leiden University, 2022

On the 17th of May I was elected to the University Council of Leiden University. I will be one of the 8 employees representing our colleagues in the council. As a representative of PhDoc, I will focus my attention on the challenges for PhDs and postdocs at our university and how we can find creative solutions. I’m really looking forward to my term in the university council, which will run from September 2022 - August 2024 (± 10 hours per week).

Computer Course for the Elderly

Education Project, Buurtwerkkamer TOP, 2021

Together with Buurtwerkkamer TOP, I am organizing a computer course for elderly people in my neighbourhood in Utrecht. We will cover basic topics such as Microsoft Office, e-mail, and web browsing. Sometimes people without many digital skills can feel left out. The hope is that we will be able to give people the confidence to interact more with the online world. Want to know more about this project and how you can help out people in your neighbourhood? Feel free to get in touch!
